Why Protection Magic?

Protection magic is by far the most important type of magic every witch or practicing spiritualist must learn. If you are working with the spirit realm, transmuting energy, healing, preforming psychic readings then you NEED to read this. Protection magic will help keep up a shield around you not allowing negative or low vibrational things penetrate into your energy field. This is not always done intentionally. Sometimes clients just have low vibrational energy, negativity attached to their aura or are energy vampires. When you come across a client like this you will most likely be under what is called a “psychic attack”. Again, not always is this done intentionally. This is just one reason why protection magic is so important.

In this article I will go over tools you can use for protection, protection spells, rituals, etc. Even if you don’t practice witchcraft, there will be something in this article you can use to protect your space, home, and aura. I heavily believe everyone should know how to energetically protect themselves being that we are energetic beings. If you’re a baby witch this is the first type of magic you want to learn how to do before anything else & after your research in the history of witchcraft. Again, this article isn’t just for the witches, there will be practices in this piece for everyone to adapt into their lifestyle.

Protection Magic Correspondences

There are many different correspondences and elements to protection magic. (Yes, I am aware I spelled talisman wrong on the graphic, my bad) I have compiled a list of things that are easy to find and you may already have. The thing about magic is it is solely based off intention. Do you need fancy tools and ingredients? NO! You can pretty much turn anything into a tool for protection as long as the intention is there. Programming items for protection is a lot easier than programming your coffee maker believe it or not. Just cleanse the item with either water, salt, or smoke and then place your hands around it. Ask your higher self & spiritual team to give this item the power of protection. You should then envision a white golden light coming from your hands wrapping around the item, you may feel the energy being released from your hands. Once you feel this item has been charged (usually takes a minute or two) release the item from your hands and thank your spiritual team for their assistance.

With these correspondences, there is no need for spells or ritual work. This is a fast & effective method. This method is great for everyone because you don’t have to go against your current beliefs on preforming “witchcraft”, you’re just simply blessing items for your protection. You can lay these items around your home, wear them, clean your aura & home with them.

Protection Jewelry

Protection jewelry is pretty much the easiest form of protection magic. It acts as a talisman, forming a shield of protection around you. Pictured is some of my favorite pieces. These were made by my very sweet friend and reiki student Danielle from Fox + Mama Crystals. She makes intention and reiki infused jewelry. Protection jewelry often is marked with protection symbols, images, and crystals. Danielle repeats her intention with every knot, link, bead, & charm she places. She then infuses her pieces with reiki energy amplifying and sealing in the protective energy. Using Protection Crystals

Working with crystals is probably easiest method when wanting protection. Crystals are well known for their limitless metaphysical properties & can be found very easily. You can place them in strategic places around your home like by the front door to block negativity entering. Beside your bed is a well known place to protect you while you sleep because that is when we are most vulnerable. Carry them with you in your pocket, purse, car. place them around spell candles for amplification. Meditate with them. In the picture above I have an Obsidian placed on my third eye. I lay down and envision myself wrapped in a blanket of white and gold energy. I ask my spiritual team for a shield of protection and meditate on that vision for a few minutes. This can be done as needed, whenever intuition tells you it’s time.

Protection Oil

Protection oil is an infusion of protection herbs, essential oils, & a carrier oil. The homemade infusion above is a blend of cedar, allspice, cloves, rosemary, black pepper, frankincense essential oil, palo santo essential oil, & olive oil. To make this you just place all ingredients in a glass jar. Bless each item that goes into the jar. I write a protection rune or sigil on the lid. Send intention filled energy to the filled jar. Place a protection crystal on the top of jar and let it sit for at least 6 weeks shaking it every once in a while. You could also heat these items up on the stove in a pot for faster infusion, it will be an instant infusion. At the end of the wait time you can either strain it & place crystal chips in it or leave the herbs in there to keep infusing. You can use the oil to anoint protection candles, draw sigils or runes on walls or doors around your house, rub on third eye during psychic work or rub in hands when doing energy work.

Protection Powder

Protection powder can be sprinkled around the perimeter of your home, yard, window seals, doorways, and any spellwork candles. The base of the powder will be sea salt or black salt. If you would like to use black salt but cant find any, you can burn protective herbs and mix the ashes in with sea salt to create black salt. Egg shells are very protective, especially if they’re coming from your chickens. You can throw in other protective herbs if you wish and grind them to a powder but black salt alone or egg shell powder alone will do the job.

Protection Candles

Protection candles, also known as “intention candles”, are another easy method when working with protection magic. White or black candles are usually used for protection work. I like to carve or paint protection runes on my candles to program the candle and lock in my intention. You can have a large candle with the rune painted on it to light whenever you’re doing spell or energy work or feel uneasy. You can purchase a 3-Day burning ritual candle (long taper candle in glass container), paint a protection rune on it and burn for three days. Make sure to blow the candle out with the intention of continuing the next day before leaving the candle unattended. You never want to leave a candle unattended for obvious reasons. For quicker spell work, purchase a chime candle in black or white to use. I am going to give you two spells you can use if you feel called.

Protection Spells

Let’s go over some basics first. Before doing any spell work, you want to be familiar with your spiritual team and the deities you work with. Your spiritual team, or court, is an army of higher beings: angels, ancestors, deities that have a sacred bond with you. Their purpose is to protect, guide, and teach you. Familiarize yourself with your team so you know exactly who you are calling forth to enter your sacred space. When doing any energy or spell work, you are opening yourself up to another realm. It is important to know who is supposed to enter your realm so they can shield you from any entity trying to penetrate that’s not supposed to. Always start any spell or energy work with calling forth your team to shield you.

After calling forth your team, you want to cast your circle of protection. You can do this by drawing an imaginary circle around your space, including your work area or just envision the circle. At this point some witches call upon the four corners. each corner represents an element to assist them. This is optional. I will always be an advocate for doing what feels right to you because this is your path. Your uniqueness defines your path, we’re all different & have different paths. Spirituality is supposed to be unique, customizable & free. That what makes this so beautiful. Create your own ritual or routine for your spell and energy work.

After any energy or spell work it is important to show gratitude and appreciation to your spirit team. You can do this by vocally expressing your gratitude. Leaving offerings like food, money, incense, alcohol is a more traditional way to show appreciation. We do this to show respect. You want to maintain an equal energy (give & take) relationship with your team.

Supplies:

• Lemon or any citrus fruit
• Sea salt
• Garlic cloves
• Red pepper flakes
• Cinnamon
• Whole cloves
• Pins or any sharp like nails
• Twine
• Black chime candle
• Petition paper

Instructions:

Call forth your spiritual team, and complete your pre-spellwork routine/ritual. Sprinkle a small ring of salt around your lemon. Cut your lemon in half.

On your petition paper write you name, date of birth, and a protection sigil or rune right over top. You can also just write the word “Protection” over your info. To make it even more personal you can place a piece of your hair, a nail clipping, or blood drop on the paper. Fold the paper towards you then turn it clockwise. Keep folding the paper towards you while turning clockwise until you have a small square or rectangle. Place the Paper inside the lemon.

Sprinkle red pepper flakes, sea salt, and cinnamon over the paper and on the flesh sides (insides) of the lemon. Place the two sides together and wrap the twine around, & tie a knot to secure the lemon shut. While wrapping the lemon think of your intention. Think of it as a protective rope binding you to divine protection.

Next, you’re going to stab the lemon with whole cloves and pins or needles with the intention of nothing shall penetrate your protection shield. Place the lemon back in the center of the salt ring. Place garlic cloves and protective crystals around the salt ring.

Grab your chime candle and anoint it with protection oil if you have any. If not, you can use plain olive oil. you can also roll your anointed candle in the herbs we use inside the lemon or you can carve the word protection or a rune on it. Stick the candle on the lemon by either gluing it or melting the bottom so the wax acts as a glue. Once candle is mounted, say a prayer or chant. By saying a prayer or chant you are placing intention and action on the spell. Make sure to be very clear on what you want and how fast you want it. Always end the prayer or chant with an affirming phase like “it will be”, “so mote it be” to affirm the spell is successful. After the prayer or chant I like to send reiki energy to the lemon but envisioning golden white energy flowing from my hands into the lemon. This will help the spell manifest. Now light you candle and let it burn all the way down.

Once the candle has burned all the way down your spell is complete. Thank you spirit team. Now you’re going to bury your lemon spell. You can do this by your front door or the front edge of your property line. This ensure the protection is not only over you, but also your home. When you burry this keep the state of mind that the spell is done & there is no need to worry about protection any longer.

Supplies:

• Mason jar
• Black salt
• Garlic Cloves
• Acidic fruit like lemon wedges
• Onion slice
• Dried hot peppers
• Red pepper flakes
• Rosemary
• Cloves
• Sharp objects like pins, nails, broken glass
• Moon or storm water
• Petition paper
• Black chime candle

Instructions:

Start you pre-spell ritual/routine. Cleanse your jar with smoke, water or spray. Make a salt ring and place your jar in the canter.

Begin to assemble all ingredients into the jar. Always start with a base of black salt, dirt, sand, etc. If you have other herbs you like to use for protection, use them! I always advice people to throw something in personal that connects them to the spell such as their hair, nails clippings, etc.

Once all ingredients are in jar, use the same steps for your petition paper as I mentioned in the first spell. Now fill the jar with your moon or storm water. If you don’t have any of those you can use tap water from your sink and feed energy into it or pray over it before adding it into the jar. Seal the jar and write a protection sigil or rune on the lid.

Place garlic cloves and protection crystals on the salt ring like in the other spell. You can even place wedges of lemon and lime too, it’s up to you. Anoint & mount your candle using the same steps like I previously mentioned then light the candle. Make sure you state your intention, say your prayer or chant before lighting the candle. As the melted wax is filling the top of the jar it will run down the sides, let it happen! Do not disturb the natural flow of the wax. I like to place protection crystals in the melted wax on top to add amplified protective energy to the jar.

When the candle has burned all the way down the spell is complete. You can either burry the jar or hide it in your home. I like to hide it in my home so that I can just re-energize the spell when needed instead of doing a whole new spell.
